Terms and privacy for Maffei-Markdown (Maffei-MD), by MaffeiTech Information Technology L.L.C..

Terms of Service

Effective · MaffeiTech

1. Agreement to these terms

By accessing or using Maffei-Markdown (also called Maffei-MD) at https://md.maffeiflow.com (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.

The Service is provided by MaffeiTech Information Technology L.L.C. (“MaffeiTech”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Maffei-Markdown is offered under the MaffeiFlow product line of MaffeiTech.

2. Definitions

  • “You” means the individual or entity using the Service.
  • “Content” means text, markdown, files, images, metadata, and other materials you submit, paste, import, create, export, or share through the Service.
  • “Share Link” means a temporary URL generated by the Service that makes submitted markdown available to anyone who has the link until it expires.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and have legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

4. The Service

Maffei-Markdown is a free online editor that helps you convert and edit rich text and markdown, with features that may include live preview, import/export, syntax highlighting, local version history, theme preferences, and optional short-lived Share Links.

  • We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice.
  • Features labeled “coming soon” (including authentication and cloud sync) are not part of the live Service until we enable them and update these Terms / Privacy Policy as needed.
  • The Service is provided over the internet; availability depends on factors outside our control (networks, browsers, third-party infrastructure).

5. Accounts

At the time these Terms are published, the Service does not require an account for core editor use. Sign-in and sign-up interfaces may appear as placeholders and do not create live accounts until we expressly enable authentication. If account features launch later, additional terms may apply and you will be responsible for safeguarding your credentials.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of your Content. You are solely responsible for Content you create, import, export, or share, and for ensuring you have all rights and permissions needed to use that Content with the Service.

You grant MaffeiTech a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, display, and process your Content solely as necessary to operate the Service features you use (for example, delivering a Share Link you create). This license ends when the relevant Content is deleted from our systems (including when a Share Link expires), except for residual copies in backups or logs that are purged in the ordinary course, or where retention is required by law.

We do not claim ownership of your Content. Except for the limited license above, these Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights in your Content to us.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
  • upload, share, or distribute Content that infringes intellectual property, privacy, or other rights, or that is defamatory, abusive, or otherwise prohibited by law;
  • attempt to probe, scan, penetrate, overload, disrupt, or bypass security or rate limits of the Service;
  • introduce malware, attempt XSS or injection attacks, or interfere with other users’ use of the Service;
  • scrape, harvest, or automate access in a manner that degrades availability or violates these Terms;
  • misrepresent affiliation with MaffeiTech, MaffeiFlow, Maffei-Markdown, or Maffei-MD; or
  • reverse engineer the Service except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law or permitted by open-source licenses for third-party components.

We may investigate violations and suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached.

9. Intellectual property

The Service—including its software, design, branding, logos, and documentation (excluding your Content and third-party open-source components)—is owned by MaffeiTech or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited right to use the Service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you by implication or otherwise.

Third-party open-source libraries used in the Service remain subject to their respective licenses.

10. Third-party services

The Service may rely on third-party infrastructure (hosting, CDN, temporary storage, and similar). We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control. Your use of third-party sites linked from the Service is at your own risk and subject to those third parties’ terms.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT CONTENT WILL BE PRESERVED WITHOUT LOSS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MAFFEITECH AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS (US $100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (IF ANY), WHICHEVER IS GREATER. BECAUSE THE CORE EDITOR IS CURRENTLY PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, THIS CAP WILL OFTEN BE US $100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where such limitation is prohibited).

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless MaffeiTech and its directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your Content; (b) your use of the Service; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights or applicable law.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and may delete local data from your browser. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service immediately if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnity) will survive termination.

15. Changes to the Service or terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective / last updated” date at the top will change when we do. If you continue to use the Service after the updated Terms are posted, you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to mandatory consumer protections that may apply in your country of residence, the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Dubai, United Arab Emirates to resolve disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.

17. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede prior agreements on the same subject.
  • Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
  • No waiver. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to do so later.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate reorganization, or sale of assets.
  • Language. These Terms are provided in English. If translated, the English version controls to the extent permitted by law.
